Adelphi, the esteemed independent revived in the 1990s, released this 17 Year Old: cask 800267, a 2003 vintage, an outturn of 224 bottles. Mortlach, owned by John Walker & Sons from 1923, makes a dense, sulphury Speyside through worm tubs and its singular 2.81-times distillation.

Seventeen years in ex-Bourbon let oxidation gain weight, baked fruit and a waxy, oily depth building over the muscular Dufftown spirit.

At 57.6% it shows fresh fruit and malt extract, undiluted. The savoury Dufftown style.
