Description

Gordon & MacPhail of Elgin, whose deep stocks include some of the oldest Mortlach in existence, selected this 15 Year Old, cask 306326, a 2009 vintage, an outturn of 211 bottles. Mortlach, owned by John Walker & Sons from 1923, makes a dense, sulphury Speyside through worm tubs and its singular 2.81-times distillation.

Across fifteen years the sherry's melanoidins and growing oxidation built dried fruit, nutmeg and leather into the gamey, savoury spirit.

At 54.8% it shows chocolate, cooked fruit and honey, undiluted. A Beast of Dufftown.
