Description
Hunter Laing, the Laing family independent based in Glasgow, drew this 12 Year Old: a 2007 vintage from cask HL 17938, an outturn of 235 bottles. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
Twelve years in ex-Bourbon let oak meet weight, vanilla and honey from lignin and wood sugars settling over the muscular Dufftown spirit.
At 52.7% it shows malt, dried fruit and a leathery edge over the meaty Mortlach body, undiluted. A muscular Speyside malt.
