Description
Douglas Laing, bottling single casks from Glasgow since 1948, released this 12 Year Old, a 2002 vintage from cask DL 10696, an outturn of 348 bottles. Mortlach's heavy, savoury style comes from worm-tub condensing and a part-triple distillation through the Wee Witchie, unchanged since 1897.
Twelve years in ex-Bourbon let oak meet weight, vanilla and honey from lignin and wood sugars settling over the bold, full-bodied make.
At 48.4% it shows honey, dried fruit and a leathery depth over the meaty Mortlach body, undiluted. A muscular Speyside malt.
