Mortlach 10 Years Old, a rich, meaty Speyside single malt in ex-Bourbon at 54.9% from Hunter Laing. Worm-tub weight and a savoury, full-bodied depth.

Description
Hunter Laing, the Laing family independent based in Glasgow, bottles this 10 Year Old: a 2012 vintage, cask HL 19530, an outturn of 242 bottles. Mortlach's robust, umami-rich spirit is the work of worm-tub condensers and the Wee Witchie's triple pass, a regime in place at Dufftown since 1897.
Ten years in ex-Bourbon let oak meet weight, vanilla and honey from lignin and wood sugars settling over the oily, meaty spirit.
At 54.9% it shows honey, dried fruit and a leathery depth carried on the heavy Dufftown body, undiluted. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
