Description
MICHAEL Sekt Brut Blanc de Blancs comes from Weingut Michael am Rosenberg in the Styrian hills of southern Austria. It is a Blanc de Blancs, made entirely from Chardonnay, and it is produced by traditional bottle fermentation rather than the tank method, with the second fermentation taking place in the same bottle that reaches the customer. It then rests nine months on the lees, and the slow autolysis over that time is what gives the wine its bready complexity alongside the fruit. It is sealed with a natural cork and finished in the brut style.
The colour is a light gold with a fine, lively bead. The nose shows ripe pear and yellow apple, with a brioche edge drawn from the lees ageing. The palate is dry, fresh and balanced, with fine acidity and an elegant structure, closing long, creamy and lightly mineral. Serve it well chilled at around 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. It makes a fine aperitif and suits oysters and seafood, light fish dishes, creamy cheeses and refined starters or canapes.
