Description
Eminente is a Cuban brand under LVMH, made from molasses on column stills by Cuba Ron, with this Gran Reserva Edition No. 1 carrying a 2013 vintage. It works within the island's light ron ligero tradition, where charcoal-filtered, column led spirit stays clean, and here the extra years in wood add weight without losing that Cuban poise. It is bottled unsweetened, worth noting in a style where dosage is common.
The nose is woody with coffee, vanilla and a fruity lift, the palate brings coffee, dried fruit, honey and oak, and the finish carries vanilla, caramel, wood and coffee. With no added sugar the rum leans on roasted depth and firm oak rather than syrup, giving it noticeably more presence than the seven year while staying smooth at 43.5%. It is a rewarding neat pour, a natural companion to a cigar, and capable in a more serious cocktail for drinkers who want Cuban character with substance.
