Description
Signatory Vintage is known for its dated single casks, an Edinburgh independent since 1988. Distilled in 1967, this 36 year old Littlemill, from cask 669 - 672 was bottled in 2003, part of the Vintage Collection - Decanter series. An outturn this small from a distillery that closed in 1994 puts it among the rarest Lowland whisky still available.
From an ex-Bourbon cask, thirty-six years draw out its delicate, honeyed spirit.
Bottled at cask strength, 41.2%, the bourbon cask lends vanilla and creamy fudge. Light and fragrant, the elegant Lowland signature throughout. In the ex-Bourbon cask, lignin breaks down to vanillin for the vanilla note, while oak lactones lend a soft coconut sweetness. At this age the angel's share has done its quiet work: in humid Scottish warehouses alcohol leaves faster than water, easing the strength and concentrating the flavour.
