Description
La Maison du Whisky has been Paris's leading whisky house since 1956, a retailer and bottler with deep ties to Scotland and Japan. A 34 year old Littlemill, from cask 29, this was distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2023, part of the Artist #13 series. With so little ever bottled and no more to come, this sits at the scarce, sought-after end of the market.
Matured in ex-Bourbon, thirty-four years carry its delicate, honeyed spirit.
At its natural 53.1%, the ex-Bourbon brings vanilla and a touch of coconut. Fragrant and clean, with orchard fruit and creamy fudge. Wood sugars from the caramelised hemicellulose give a light toffee, while lignin yields the vanillin behind the vanilla. Great age in a dunnage warehouse means the angel's share has taken much of the cask and gently lowered the strength, concentrating what remains.
