Description
Smoked Stout extends the Beer Cask Series from The Dublin Liberties Distillery in Dublin, this time using ex-bourbon casks that had been seasoned with a smoked stout before the whiskey went in. The 2021 release is a 3 Years Old blend of malt and grain, bottled for France in a run of 1,926 bottles.
Irish whiskey is almost never smoky, so the whisper of smoke here is a novelty that comes from the beer, not from peated malt. It settles over dark chocolate and roasted coffee from the stout, with the bourbon oak beneath contributing vanilla and honey. Bottled at 40%, it is a gentle, campfire tinged twist on the soft Dubliner house blend rather than anything approaching a smoke bomb.
