The Beer Cask Series pairs The Dublin Liberties Distillery with Ireland's independent brewers, and this first batch, released in 2019 for Europe, borrows casks from Carlow Brewing Company that held Leann Folláin, the brewery's extra Irish stout. It is a no age statement Dubliner blend of malt and grain given a spell in that stout soaked oak.
Stout casks are generous to Irish whiskey, trading dark chocolate, espresso and roasted grain into the spirit, and here they sit over the blend's honey and vanilla base rather than burying it. Bottled at 40%, Batch 1 is an easy introduction to beer cask finishing, and a nod to the days when Dublin's brewers and distillers shared the same few streets of the Liberties.
