Lagg Inaugural Release Batch 3 3 Years Old 2019 (Red Wine)

This is Batch 3 of Lagg's Inaugural Release, an experimental batch of the young peated Isle of Arran distillery's first single malt, a 3 year old distilled in 2019 and matured with red wine casks. Manager Graham Omand used small fifty-litre wine and sherry firkins for the experimental batches, which impart flavour quickly. Lagg opened in 2019 to bring peated whisky back to Arran.

Peated to around 50ppm, Lagg's malt yields a heavy, smoky spirit. Matured in red wine casks, the small wine wood adds a berryish, tannic note to the young smoke.

Bottled at 50% without chill filtration or added colour. Guaiacol and phenols drive the young peat smoke, the red wine cask adding dark fruit and a drying grip. Tasting notes take in a nutty note, citrus and a medicinal edge. The experimental wine-matured batch of Lagg's first release.
