Description
This Small Batch is a peated single malt from Lagg, the young Isle of Arran distillery, given a Manzanilla sherry influence, an outturn of 2,000 bottles. Lagg opened in 2019 as the peated sister to Lochranza, bringing heavily peated whisky back to Arran after the island's last legal distillery closed in 1837.
Built as Arran's peated distillery, Lagg works barley peated to about 50ppm. Matured in ex-Bourbon and Manzanilla casks, the dry sherry adds a saline, nutty edge to the smoke.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.6%. Guaiacol and phenols drive the peat smoke, the ex-Bourbon giving vanilla, the Manzanilla a dry, saline note. Tasting notes take in chocolate, a coal-gas mineral edge, dried fruit, honey and smoke. A dry, sherried small-batch Lagg.
