A 20-year-average Tawny from 1638-founded Kopke, deep amber with dried fig, apricot, honey and butterscotch over a rich, velvety palate that carries a long finish.

Description
Kopke, the oldest Port house and a leader in aged Tawny and Colheita wines, makes this 20 Years Old from Douro wines of many harvests. Each component matures separately in oak cask, and the average of their ages sets the 20-year figure on the label before the final blend is assembled.
Twenty years of oxidative ageing in wood fade the colour to deep amber with a golden-brown edge and rework the fruit into dried figs, apricots and raisins layered with honey and toasted nut. The slow evaporation concentrates the wine and softens the spirit, so the texture turns rich and velvety while a toasty, faintly oxidative twist develops.
The nose is complex, dried fruit and spice framed by fine wood, honey, maple and a hint of tobacco. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, closing on butterscotch, salted caramel and nuts with a long velvety finish. Serve lightly chilled between 12 and 14 degrees with dark chocolate, hard cheese or a plate of dried fruit and nuts.
