Description
The Founders' Reserve 2018 is a Kingsbarns honouring the distillery's founding investors, a 3 year old from the first 2015 fills, matured in ex-Bourbon and bottled undiluted. An outturn of 3,000 bottles, released at a festival. Kingsbarns, founded by the Wemyss family in 2014, is a Lowland distillery in the East Neuk of Fife.
Built near St Andrews in a restored farm steading, the distillery runs long-necked stills for a light, fruity, unpeated spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks, the wood frames a very young malt from the earliest fills.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 62.1%. From the ex-Bourbon come vanilla and coconut, its vanillin and oak lactones. The recorded note is a kippery edge over the young fruit. An early founders' release from the first year's spirit.
