Kanosuke Limited Edition 2023 is a cask strength single malt from Kanosuke, Komasa's coastal Kagoshima distillery, drawing on spirit from both 2018 and 2019 distillations and bottled in 2023 for global distribution. The annual limited edition releases have become a key point in the distillery's calendar, each one exploring a different cask approach.
The 2023 edition uses a combination of recharred American oak casks seasoned with Mellowed Kozuru shochu alongside Oloroso sherry casks, an unusual pairing that draws on Komasa's shochu heritage while adding the dried fruit and spice of Spanish oak. The Kozuru casks, mellowed with Komasa's own shochu, contribute a cooked sweetness and earthy warmth that the cooked vegetable note in the profile reflects, while the sherry adds dark fruit and a deeper richness. At 59% the cask strength bottling delivers the full complexity of this multi-cask parcel.
