Kanosuke Wood

Kanosuke Wood is a single malt from Kanosuke, Komasa's coastal Kagoshima distillery, distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2022 at 3 years of age for global release. It is part of the distillery's elemental series alongside Earth and Fire, each expression defined by the character of its cask type, and Wood takes its name and direction from re-charred American white oak barrels.

Re-charring American oak removes the surface layer of previously extracted wood compounds and creates a fresh charred layer that contributes additional caramel, vanilla and gentle smoke character alongside the deeper toasted oak notes the recharring exposes. Three years on the Kagoshima coast in this activated wood gives the spirit more wood influence than a standard bourbon barrel would provide at the same age, building a layered, wood-driven profile over the distillery's inherent fruity softness. At 50% it is bottled at cask strength, presenting the full integrated result.
