Kanosuke Fire

Kanosuke Fire is a single malt from Kanosuke, Komasa's coastal Kagoshima distillery, distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2023 at 4 years of age. It is part of the distillery's elemental release series alongside Earth and takes its character from a different cask direction, using Pedro Ximenez sherry butts as the primary maturation vessel.

Pedro Ximenez wood is among the richest influence available to a distiller: the fortified wine's dense, dark sugar and dried fig character transfers deeply into the spirit, particularly in Kagoshima's warm, accelerated maturation conditions. Four years in PX butts on the Kagoshima coast builds layers of raisin, fig and dark chocolate on top of the distillery's inherent tropical fruit softness, and the Fire name reflects the intensity the cask programme delivers. Bottled at 50% cask strength, it is the boldest wood expression in the elemental line.
