Description
A grain distillery in the malt heartland of the Northern Highlands, Invergordon sends most of its spirit into blends, leaving single grain releases to independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by Meadowside Blending, distilled in 1972, at 45 years old, for its The Grainman range. Single cask number 13000018 yielded 267 bottles, released for Europe.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 49.4%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to fresh orchard fruit, citrus, dried fruit, honey, malt sweetness and fresh oak. The great age has turned the spirit waxy and tropical, ripe mango and pineapple emerging over the vanilla.
