Description
Invergordon single grain is uncommon, the distillery's output largely feeding Whyte & Mackay blends rather than standalone bottlings. This single cask was bottled by Wilson & Morgan, distilled in 1984, at 30 years old, for its Barrel Selection - Special Release range. Single cask number 14 yielded 767 bottles, released for Italy.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 57%, without dilution, the Oloroso wood adds dried fruit, with melanoidins reading as fig and raisin and tannins giving a walnut dryness. Long maturation has layered tropical fruit and a buttery, waxy weight over the grain's natural sweetness.
