Description
Founded in 1959, Invergordon makes grain whisky on a large scale for blending, so single grain bottlings under its own name are rare and come mostly from independent bottlers. This release was bottled by Buds & Barrels, distilled in 1986, at 37 years old, for its The Sticky Label - Mr. Sticky's hidden cellar range. The outturn was 40 bottles, released for Belgium.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 47.9%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Decades in oak have pushed the light grain into waxy, tropical territory, with mango and pineapple from slow ester development.
