Description
Invergordon single grain is uncommon, the distillery's output largely feeding Whyte & Mackay blends rather than standalone bottlings. This single cask was bottled by Alistair Walker Whisky Company, distilled in 1988, at 35 years old, for its Infrequent Flyers range. Single cask number 804138 yielded 273 bottles, released for Europe.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in a rum cask.
Bottled at 43%, the rum cask brings molasses sweetness and a soft banana lift from its esters. Recorded bottle notes run to stewed fruit. The great age has turned the spirit waxy and tropical, ripe mango and pineapple emerging over the vanilla.
