Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This single cask was bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd, distilled in 1988, at 35 years old, for its Single Cask range. It came from single cask number 26970, released for the Netherlands.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 59.6%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Decades in oak have pushed the light grain into waxy, tropical territory, with mango and pineapple from slow ester development.
