Description
A grain distillery in the malt heartland of the Northern Highlands, Invergordon sends most of its spirit into blends, leaving single grain releases to independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd, distilled in 1988, at 29 years old. It came from single cask number 26967, released for Europe.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at 46%, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to citrus, seasoned oak, vanilla, a coal gas note, honey and a mossy, earthy note. Underneath the wood the grain stays soft and sweet, into a clean, mellow finish.
