Description
A grain distillery in the malt heartland of the Northern Highlands, Invergordon sends most of its spirit into blends, leaving single grain releases to independent bottlers. This release was bottled by Arranthony Moray, distilled in 1997, at 26 years old, for its Wasted Wolf Whisky range. The outturn was 50 bottles, released for Belgium.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 50.9%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to seasoned oak, a smoky note and vanilla. Underneath the wood the grain stays soft and sweet, into a clean, mellow finish.
