Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This release was bottled by Cadenhead's, distilled in 1991, at 26 years old, for its Single Cask range. The outturn was 156 bottles, released for Belgium.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 53.8%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to a nutty note. Invergordon's light grain core keeps it soft and sweet through a long vanilla finish.
