Description
An official Cameronbridge single grain, bottled at 40%. Cameronbridge was founded in 1824 by John Haig, of the great Haig distilling family, in Fife. As well as grain whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka.
The spirit was made in continuous stills from wheat for a light spirit, for a light, sweet make of real purity. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla and crème brûlée. Carrying no age, it leans on coconut, vanilla and a soft toffee. Light grain takes oak readily, the ex-Bourbon lending coconut and vanilla. Light grain spirit like this gains coconut and toffee from decades in active oak. Pot stills for malt whisky were removed in 1929, leaving Cameronbridge a pure grain plant. The site was expanded again in 2007 in a forty million pound investment. The Haig name has been tied to Scottish distilling since the 17th century. It was the home of continuous distillation in Scotland, making the country's first commercial grain whisky.
At an approachable 40% it is soft and balanced. The ex-Bourbon gives coconut, toffee and a creamy caramel. A crème brûlée and a polished oak give it depth. Toffee and vanilla see out a long finish. This is the clean, sweet grain of Cameronbridge.
