Glasgow Distillery 2018 HiSp (Hidden Spirits)

Hidden Spirits selected this Glasgow malt, aged 5 year old from 2018, drawn from cask GL1824 and bottled at 50.9%. A release of 256 bottles. The Glasgow Distillery Company, set up in 2012 in Hillington, was Glasgow's first malt distillery in over a hundred years. Makar Gin came first, in 2014, and helped fund the return of whisky to the city.

Made in copper stills for the fresh, fruity house make, for a fruity, vibrant make. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak for a honeyed sweetness. The cool, damp Glasgow warehouse gives a steady maturation. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow in over a century. Its 1770 name recalls the old Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill, founded in 1770 and closed in 1902. Makar Gin came first, in 2014, and helped fund the return of whisky to the city. The first single malt casks were filled in 2015, the first whisky released in 2018.

At its natural 50.9% it is concentrated. Pear, vanilla and a citrus lift lead, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and a soft apple. A vanilla and a gentle spice give it depth. The finish is bright, spiced and warming. This is a young Glasgow Lowland single malt.
