Description
This Glasgow malt was from the independent bottler Claxton's matured to 4 year old from 2017, drawn from cask C22075 and bottled at 58.2%. Just 67 bottles were filled. The Glasgow Distillery Company opened in Hillington in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow since 1902. The stills are named for the founders' families and for the MacDonald artist sisters.
Run through the distillery's copper pot stills, to build a clean, orchard fruit character. A sherry cask wrapped the young spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Short, warm maturation in active casks defines the young Glasgow style. The distillery is known for an adventurous cask policy, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration.
Bottled at a cask strength 58.2%, it is intense. Orchard fruit and a light honey lead, and the Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. Beneath it run apple, pear and a soft spice. The close is warm, fruit over young oak. This is a cask driven young Lowland malt from Glasgow.
