Warm oak, vanilla and roasted agave define this small batch añejo from Don Julio 1942, named for the distillery’s founding year, rested at least two and a half years and bottled at 38 percent for sipping neat.
Description
Don Julio 1942 is a 100 percent Blue Weber añejo from the Diageo owned house at Atotonilco el Alto, in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, named for the year Julio González founded the distillery. It is the brand's flagship aged expression, made in small batches and rested at least two and a half years, and is a fixture of cocktail bars and restaurants around the world.
The longer rest pushes the barrel forward, giving a complex palate of warm oak, vanilla and roasted agave where the wood leads and highland agave sits beneath. The profile is polished and sweet leaning in the modern style, built to be enjoyed neat at room temperature. Bottled at 38 percent, it is among the most recognised aged tequilas on the market and is not positioned as additive-free.
