Copeland 26.1 comes from the Copeland distillery in Donaghadee, Co. Down, a coastal operation founded in 2019 and named for the islands that sit just offshore. The town's history as a smuggling coast shapes the house's fondness for rum casks, and this 5 Years Old single malt puts that preference to work alongside red wine barrels, released for Europe in 2026 as a limited run of 860 bottles.
Maturation combines rum casks with ex-Pinot Noir and ex-Shiraz barrels, an unusual pairing that layers brown sugar, dark cherry and warm baking spice over the honey and orchard fruit of young Irish malt. Bottled at its natural strength of 57.8%, it carries the full weight of the casks and opens generously with a drop of water.
