Clément VSOP

Clement is one of Martinique's established estates, and its VSOP is a rhum agricole carrying the island's AOC, the world's only rum appellation. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice on a creole column at low strength to preserve the cane, it earns the VSOP mention with at least four years in oak, and like all Martinique AOC agricole it is made without added sugar.

This is a classic, approachable take on aged agricole. The nose is light with apple, citrus and vanilla over wood, leading to a palate of grassy sugarcane, herbal notes, gentle spice and dry oak, with dried fruit and a faintly smoky lift. At 40% it is soft and unfussy, often described as a textbook everyday Martinique profile, which makes it a fine place to learn the grassy, vegetal style before moving on to stronger or funkier bottles. Dry and versatile, it works neat, in a Ti' Punch, or in spirit-forward cocktails.
