Description
This Private Cask under the Clement label was distilled at Distillerie du Simon in Martinique, a single cask from a 2018 vintage. The spirit is rhum agricole from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice, matured close to five years in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at a powerful 60.8%.
The profile runs nutty and rich. The nose offers baked apple, banana and a clear nutty note, while the palate is almond-led with a natural sweetness from the spirit and oak. The finish lingers on hazelnut, tropical fruit and a sherry-like edge. At full cask strength it is intense and warming, tropical ageing lending this near-five-year agricole the depth of an older rum while keeping its fruit and cane character intact. A bold, nut-and-orchard-fruit single cask that opens up well with a little water.
