Description
Cinzano Asti is a DOCG sparkling from the hills around Asti in Piedmont, made from the aromatic Moscato Bianco grape. Following the Asti method, a single controlled fermentation in pressurised steel tanks is stopped early, which keeps the alcohol low at 7 per cent and holds a good deal of the grape's natural sugar in the wine. That approach preserves the intense floral and musky aromatics that define the style, giving a sweet, lightly sparkling wine rather than a fully sparkling one. As a DOCG it works within strict rules, and this 200 ml bottle is an easy single serve.
The colour is a pale straw yellow with a fine, lively bead. The nose is openly aromatic, with pronounced Muscat and floral character, and the palate is sweet, juicy and fresh, with clear grape fruit and a soft, animating finish. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a small wine glass or a flute. It is at its best with dessert, matching fruit tarts, light pastries and fruit salads, and it can also open a celebration.
