Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama was established by Ichiro Akuto in 2008 and has since produced some of Japan's most collected single cask whisky, with small annual runs of bourbon-matured spirit forming the core of its output. Cask 2923, a 2013 vintage, was held back for eight years before being bottled directly by the distillery for an event release in 2021.
An Ex-Bourbon barrel provided the maturation vessel, lending the classic American oak profile of vanilla, light coconut and soft cereal sweetness to Chichibu's inherently fruit-forward new make. The combination of a precise, vivid distillate and eight seasons of Kanto warmth in seasoned wood produces a balanced, layered result: bright fresh fruit and vanilla in the foreground, a gentle wood structure underneath, and the full natural ABV of 59.5% keeping the delivery concentrated and focused to the finish.
