Description
Cask number 14044 is a 2016 vintage Chichibu single malt matured across Ex-Bourbon and red wine casks, bottled in 2024 at 65.5% by La Maison du Whisky for the French market. The double-cask maturation is a notable feature of this release from Saitama's Chichibu distillery, Venture Whisky's flagship site founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto.
The combination of Ex-Bourbon and red wine wood gives a layered maturation story: the bourbon barrel builds vanilla, caramel and soft spice, while the red wine cask adds bright berry fruit, grape-skin tannin and a floral lift that pushes the profile in a more expressive direction. Chichibu's naturally fruit-forward new make slots into this dual-cask framework with ease. At 65.5% the bottling is among the most concentrated in the distillery's French-market library and rewards measured dilution.
