Description
Chichibu distillery in Saitama, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto under the Venture Whisky company, has become the reference point for Japan's modern craft whisky movement. This 2013 vintage single cask, numbered 2666, was selected by The Whisky Exchange for a specialist event release, representing eight years of maturation in a single Ex-Bourbon barrel.
The bourbon cask gave the spirit its familiar Chichibu scaffolding: vanilla cream, light coconut and soft orchard fruit supported by a gentle cereal backbone. At 59.5% cask strength, the spirit remains vivid and unadulterated, with the distillery's characteristically clean and fruit-forward new make intact at the core. Without dilution, the warmth of eight Saitama seasons in wood expresses itself fully, producing a firm, focused finish that shows both the cask's contribution and the house style in equal measure.
