Description
Chichibu 3 Years Old is a single malt distilled in 2008, the year the Chichibu distillery opened in Saitama under Venture Whisky founder Ichiro Akuto, and bottled in 2011 at 59% cask strength for the French market in a 750ml format. It stands as one of the earliest fully aged releases from Chichibu, a significant early marker from a distillery that would go on to become one of Japan's most closely followed.
Maturation across Ex-Bourbon and mizunara casks in just three years places the spirit in an early dialogue between American oak's vanilla and coconut and mizunara's incense and sandalwood, with the vibrancy of Chichibu's fruit-forward new make still close to the surface. The cask-strength ABV reflects that youthful directness, and the mizunara inclusion, rare at such a short age, speaks to Ichiro Akuto's early commitment to Japanese oak.
