Description
Chandon has made sparkling wine in Argentina since 1959, and this Garden Spritz is a ready-to-serve aperitif rather than a straight sparkling wine. The base is an aromatic Moscato, deliberately vinified to a lower alcohol so the fruit and freshness lead. To that Chandon adds a macerate of Eureka lemons from the Tucuman region in the north-west, along with lemon verbena, botanicals and a little spice. The blend is kept in stainless steel to preserve its lively citrus character, and the finished drink sits at a gentle six per cent with clear off-dry sweetness.
The colour is light yellow with a fine, quick bead. The nose is fresh lemon zest and aromatic herbs, with a floral verbena lift. The palate is led by juicy citrus, green herbal tones and a warming touch of ginger, closing clean and slightly spicy. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees over ice, with a slice of lemon or a sprig of rosemary. It suits a warm afternoon and pairs with olives, grilled vegetables, light Mediterranean plates and gently spiced dishes.
