Description
Cascahuin is a fourth generation family distillery in El Arenal under NOM 1123, making tequila since 1904 in the artesanal tradition from the cultivated agave of the Tequila valley. This extra añejo is additive-free, with no flavouring and no added sugar, just pure agave spirit rested for four years in well worn American oak barrels that are around fifteen years old and previously held bourbon.
The house varies its production techniques batch to batch and keeps each bottling under 2,500 litres, unusually small even for a traditional producer. After the long maturation the spirit shows dried fruit and a nutty character on the nose, carrying through to dried fruit on the palate with a little caramel and vanilla from the wood. At 43% it holds an assertive lowland minerality beneath the cask sweetness, a structured and savoury extra añejo.
