Carrere Montebello L’Équilibre 2002

Montebello, made by the Marsolle family on Basse-Terre, is a traditional Guadeloupe agricole house, and this L'Equilibre from the 2002 vintage lives up to its name with a well-integrated profile after fifteen years in cask. Bottled under Guadeloupe's IGP, it is fully aged cane-juice rum.

Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice on a column still and matured in ex-bourbon oak under tropical conditions, it has settled into a smooth, spice-and-vanilla register rather than raw grassiness. The nose is balanced with vanilla, orange peel and chocolate, while the palate brings caramel, more vanilla, lemon and wood. The finish turns woody and velvety with fruit and a tobacco note, carrying a measured bitterness that stays in check. Soft and rounded at 47.2%, it is a contemplative aged agricole that rewards patience, well suited to slow sipping for those who favour polish over punch.
