Description
Montebello is a traditional family-run Guadeloupe agricole distillery on Basse-Terre, and this Le Brut de Fut Batch 2 2016 is an eight year old single-batch bottling, distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice on a column still and matured in ex-bourbon oak, released unsweetened at cask strength.
Eight years of tropical ageing brings noticeable oak while keeping the cane alive. The nose is fresh and citrussy with sugarcane and wood, the palate woody, fresh and oily with sugarcane, and the finish stays woody and oily with an orange lift. The wood and spice integrate well with the cane, joined by a light coffee note, and at 47.7% it is balanced and full without being fiery. A well-made aged agricole that pairs the freshness of cane juice with genuine cask maturity.
