An unsweetened Guadeloupe blanc from Carrere, the Montebello distillery, all fresh sugar cane, citrus and a flinty mineral streak with a faintly smoky edge, column distilled and bottled bright at 55%.
Description
A 2021 white agricole from Carrere, the Basse-Terre distillery behind Montebello, run by the Marsolle family in the traditional Guadeloupe style. Guadeloupe sits under the looser IGP rather than the Martinique AOC, but this is pure fresh-pressed cane juice all the same, rested rather than aged and bottled unsweetened at a punchy 55%.
The creole column distils low to keep the grassy, vegetal cane character in the spirit, and that snap defines the glass. The nose is all sugar cane and citrus with a faint smoky note, while the palate stays fresh and dry with a metallic, mineral edge that gives it a stony backbone. A spicy, woody, grassy finish with more citrus rounds it off. Honest and unsweetened, it works neat for those who like the lean style and shines in a Ti' Punch or a White and Stormy.
