Description
The Spot range grew from the Mitchell and Son wine merchants of Dublin, who marked maturing casks with dabs of coloured paint; Blue Spot is the cask strength expression, released without an age gate at seven years. This bottling was filled for the Irish market in 2022 at 58.9%, a single pot still distilled at Midleton in Co. Cork.
Three cask types shape it, ex-bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry butts and Madeira, layering honey, malt and dried fruit over the spirit's green apple and clove. A leathery, chocolate edge comes from the sherry and Madeira, while the unmalted barley keeps the texture oily and the spice bright. Bottled at full strength, triple distilled and unpeated.
