Description
This is the 2020 edition of Blue Spot, the cask strength 7 Years Old in the Spot range of single pot still whiskeys. Made from malted and unmalted barley at the Midleton distillery in Co. Cork, it is bottled at full strength, 58.7%, carrying on the Mitchell & Son bonding tradition.
Ex-bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry butts and Madeira casks combine to give a darker, richer read than its youth suggests, chocolate, dried and cooked fruit and a malty depth with a citrus lift and a fragrant top note. Undiluted and only seven years old, the pot still spice is bright and peppery, the oily texture of the unmalted barley amplified by the proof. A vivid, wine cask driven pot still whiskey at full power.
