Blue Spot is the cask strength member of the Spot range, a single pot still whiskey made from malted and unmalted barley at the Midleton distillery in Co. Cork. This 2024 release is the 7 Years Old, bottled undiluted at 58.4% in the Mitchell & Son bonding tradition.
Three casks build it, ex-bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry butts and Madeira, the fortified wines giving a sherried, honeyed sweetness with a citrus lift. At full strength and only seven years old the pot still spice runs hot and lively, the pepper and oily texture of the unmalted barley front and centre. A young, punchy pot still whiskey that carries its proof well.
