Big Peat The Vienna Edition, an Islay blended malt at 55.1%, Port Ellen among its malts. Heavily peated, showing elegant smoke over citrus and salt. Briny, mineral and gently medicinal. Peat reek tempered by sea and citrus. A scarce survivor of the 1983 silence. An assertive, coastal blended malt touched by Port Ellen smoke.

Description
Big Peat The Vienna Edition is Big Peat, the Douglas Laing Islay blended malt that carries Port Ellen. Big Peat folds the island's peated malts into one assertive dram. Each release is a fresh vatting of Islay's smoky malts.
It brings together single malts from across Islay rather than one distillery alone. Built without an age statement, Port Ellen lends the vatting a graceful, maritime smoke. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon American oak, gentle wood beneath the peat. Maturation in old refill casks keeps the distillery character front and centre. Douglas Laing has long specialised in the malts of the islands. A dram built for those who take their whisky smoky. The Port Ellen within ties it to one of Islay's lost legends. Smoke, salt and citrus run through its Islay character. It wears the big, coastal smoke of the island with pride.
At a hearty 55.1% it carries real weight. Crystallised lemon and a salty tang ride on drifting Islay peat smoke, with a thread of vanilla from the bourbon wood. A crystallised lemon and a saline tang lift the smoke. It fades on smoke, citrus and a saline tang. A big, smoky Islay vatting with closed distillery Port Ellen inside.
