Description
Timorous Beastie Small Batch Release is a blended malt Scotch from Douglas Laing. It marries single malts from more than one distillery, Dalmore among them. The Mackenzie clan ran it from 1867, and gave it the twelve pointed Royal Stag, after an ancestor saved King Alexander III from a charging stag in 1263.
Dalmore lends a rich, sherried Highland depth to the blend. A bourbon barrel held it, vanilla and a marmalade citrus over the oily malt. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the rich malt. Refill oak lets the full bodied Dalmore character lead, orange and dried fruit beneath. An aged Oloroso cask suits the rich spirit, dried fruit and chocolate meeting the oily weight. The Dalmore range climbs to some of the oldest and most expensive whiskies in the world. Its long time master distiller Richard Paterson, known as The Nose, shaped the rich house style.
At 46.8% it is clean and soft. Orange, dried fruit and a dark chocolate richness run through it, full and sherried. It is full and rich, the opulent spirit shining through. The finish is deep, sherried and dark. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
