Big Peat Global Traveller's Edition is a peated Islay blended malt from Douglas Laing, with rare Port Ellen inside. The vatting brings Islay's smoke together with the prized Port Ellen thread. The Port Ellen thread is what many collectors prize most in it.

The category marries malts from different distilleries, here the peated malts of Islay. Built without an age statement, the rare Port Ellen at its heart brings a structured, briny smoke. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon American oak, gentle wood beneath the peat. Decades in oak soften the phenols, turning sharp peat reek into mellow embers. Bottlings carrying closed distillery malt grow rarer each year. Douglas Laing has long specialised in the malts of the islands. A dram built for those who take their whisky smoky. The Port Ellen within ties it to one of Islay's lost legends.

Bottled at a cask strength 48%, it is intense. A gently medicinal smoke runs over lemon peel and sea brine, with light oak sweetness underneath. The mouthfeel is oily, the smoke carried on a waxy body. Embers and sea salt see out a long finish. A smoky, characterful blended malt built on Islay peat and Port Ellen.
