Description
Big Peat Friends of Fèis Ìle 2026 is Big Peat, the Douglas Laing Islay blended malt that carries Port Ellen. Big Peat folds the island's peated malts into one assertive dram. Each release is a fresh vatting of Islay's smoky malts.
Blended malt means malt from more than one distillery, in this case Islay's smoky houses. Built without an age statement, Port Ellen adds its elegant, citric smoke to the mix. A Pedro Ximenez cask laid a dark, raisined sweetness under the smoke. Coastal warehousing lends a saline, maritime note as the spirit breathes by the sea. It wears the big, coastal smoke of the island with pride. A modern Islay dram with a thread of the past inside. The Islay malts give it a smoke quite unlike a mainland blend. Vattings like this let the smoky malts of Islay shine together. The peat is the point here, drawn from Islay's smoky distilleries.
At a natural 52.6% it is powerful and oily. A soft maritime smoke carries salted citrus and a soft wax, with a touch of vanilla and cream from the wood. Soft embers and brine sit behind the smoke. A waxy, gently medicinal finish lingers long. An assertive, coastal blended malt touched by Port Ellen smoke.
